في هذا الكتاب يوضح الغزالي أقسام الغرور التي انتشرت بين الناس من علماء وزهاد وأغنياء ومتصوفة. فهو يقسم المغرورين من العلماء إلى إحدى عشرة فرقة، ومن العباد إلى تسع فرق، ومن أصحاب الأموال إلى ست فرق، ومن المتصوفة إلى تسع فرق. وفي كل صنف من هذه الأصناف يشرح الغزالي أسباب غرور صاحبه والمشاعر الداخلية المصاحبة له، والعلامة المميزة التي تسهل التعرف عليه، وأحيانا يذكر العلاج الذي يداويه. وقد كتب الغزالي هذا الكتاب بعد إحياء علوم الدين حيث يحيل فيه إلي فصل ذم الغرور من كتاب الإحياء.

Summary

In this book, al-Ġazālī lists types of conceit and the conceited groups. He discusses in details the conceited scholars, worshippers, riches, and Sufis. He classifies the conceited groups among the believers into thirty five groups: eleven of the scholars, nine of the worshippers, six of the riches, and nine of the Sufis. In each category, he elaborates on the reasons for such cockiness, the feelings that accompany it, and its distinctive sign. He frequently suggests the appropriate treatment. Al-Ġazālī wrote this book after he wrote his famous work (Iḥyāʾ ʿulūm al-dīn) as he refers to it in this work.

Dans ce livre, al-Ġazālī énumère les types de vanité et les groupes vaniteux. Il traite en détail des vaniteux parmi les savants, les adorateurs, les riches et les soufis. Il classe les groupes vaniteux parmi les croyants en trente-cinq groupes : onze de savants, neuf d'adorateurs, six de riches, et neuf de soufis. Pour chaque catégorie, il développe les raisons de cette prétention, les sentiments qui l'accompagnent et son signe distinctif. Il suggère fréquemment le traitement approprié. Al-Ġazālī a écrit ce livre après avoir rédigé son célèbre ouvrage (Iḥyāʾ ʿulūm al-dīn) comme il y fait référence dans cette œuvre.
