Biography

  • Secretary and librarian under different viziers and under the Būyid ʿAḍud al-Dawla.- He was closed both to the Arabo-Persian aristocracy and to the most remarkable representatives of Islamic culture of the age.- His philosophical work attaches prime importance to the ethic and hilights the recourse to an autonomous reason for establishing profund realities.- He is part of a particularly brilliant intellectual generation and took part in the emergence of a philosophical adab in Būyid Persia and Iraq.- Until now, his treatise on ethic did not find any equivalent composed in Arabic.- He was a really good prose writer and remains of current importance in Arabic and Islamic thought
