Biography

  • مؤلف ومترجم ساهم بشكل كبير في النهضة العلمية المصرية في العصر الحديث. أوفده محمد علي باشا عام 1826(م) كإمام لبعثة من الطلاب المصريين إلى أوروبا، فتعلم هناك اللغة الفرنسية واطلع علي عدة علوم أخري كالتاريخ والجغرافيا، وقام بترجمة العديد من الكتب. بعد عودته، قام محمد علي بتوليته مهمة الترجمة في مدرسة الطب بطره، ثم عهد إليه بإدارة مدرسة الألسن بعد تأسيسها عام 1835(م). أنشأ جريدة الوقائع المصرية، وتولى إدارة جريدة الروضة.

Biography

  • Egyptian writer and translator. One of the most important renaissance intellectuals. He was sent to to Europe in 1826 to serve as Imām for an Egyptian students' mission where he learned French language and translated many important french works. He established the School of Languages in 1835 and was influential in the development of many scientific fields in Egypt during the 19th century.
