  • Originaire d'une famille aristocratique de Cordoue.- Sa jeunesse correspond à la période troublée de la fin du califat Umayyade.- Il aurait participé à l'installation de l'oligarchie Ǧahawaride à Cordoue.- Il est vizir pour deux gouverneurs de Cordoue : Abū l-Ḥazm Ibn Ǧahwar et son fils Abū l-Walīd.- Deux fois il est écarté de sa fonction par des rivaux.- Il est ensuite au service des ʿAbbādides de Séville.- Il les aurait aidé à consuérir Cordoue.- Sa poésie peut être qualifiée de "néo-classique".- Son originalité et son talent transparaissent surtout dans l'expression de ses sentiments plus que dans ses panégyriques.- Sa vie sentimentale et littéraire est dominée par sa relation compliquée avec la poétesse Wallāda, fille du calife Umayyade al-Mustakfi

Biography

  • From an aristocratic family of Cordova.- His early years coincided with the especially troubled period at the end of the Umayyad caliphate.- He probably participated in the establishment of the Ǧahawarid oligarchy in Cordova.- He is vizir under two governors of Cordova : Abū l-Ḥazm Ibn Ǧahwar and his son Abū l-Walīd.- Both times, he is removed from his functions by some competitors.- He then serves the ʿAbbādide of Seville.- He probably helped them to win Cordova.- His poetry can be considered as "neo-classical".- His originality and his talent show more through his feelings' expression than through his panegyrics.- His romantic and literary life is dominated by his stormy relationship with the poetess Wallāda, the daughter of the Umayyad caliph al-Mustakfi
