  • Médecin et théologien chrétien.- Il est le principal disciple d'Ibn al-Ṭayyib, prêtre, philosophe et médecin.- Il enseignait la médecine et la philosophie à Bagdad.- Il voyage à travers différentes villes et pays avant de s'établir au Caire en 441/1049.- À Alep, il est reçu par le gouverneur mirdāside Muʿizz al-dawla Ṯimāt b. Ṣāliḥ qui lui donne l'autorisation pour organiser le culte des Chrétiens dans la ville.- Au Caire, il est le centre d'une controverse médico-philosophique qui l'oppose à Ibn Riḍwān.- À Constantinople, il rédige un traité sur la doctrine de l'Eucharistie à la demande du patriarche Michel Cérulaire au moment du schisme entre les Églises latine et grecque.- Il devient ensuite moine à Antioche et se retire dans un monastère.- Sa production littéraire est originale et variée

Biography

  • Christian physician and theologian.- He is the main pupil of Ibn al-Ṭayyib, priest, philosopher and physician.- He taught medicine and philosophy in Baghdad.- He travelled trough different cities and countries before settling in Cairo in 441/1049.- In Aleppo, he was honoured by the Mirdāsid governor Muʿizz al-dawla Ṯimāt b. Ṣāliḥ who authorized him to organise the Christian service in the city.- In Cairo, he was at the heart of a medico-philosophical controversy against Ibn Riḍwān.- In Constantinople,he wrote a treaty on the Eucharist at the request of the Patriarch Michel Cerularius at the time of the schism between the Greek and the Latin Church.- He then became a monk and retired to a monastery.- He had an original and various literary production
